Before Oprah Winfrey goes to bed, she has a habit of writing down three things that gave her pleasure that day. What would be on your list?

When the going gets tough, it’s comforting to remind ourselves that joy can be found anywhere and at anytime. While it’s not possible to be happy all the time, celebrating the little things is a sure way to get through any day with greater ease. As Sir Arthur Conan Doyle writes, “It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.”

We’ve found that making a short—or long—list of the things that give you pleasure (and referring to this list during difficult times) is a great way to encourage you to choose gratitude over despair and kindness over fear. If you need some inspiration to get your list started, here are 42 tiny things that warm our hearts.
